The Instinct Of Protecting Artwork Online

A disaster that helped an art for sale

The unsung heroes of the art world

A disaster that helped an art for sale

The deadliest marine disasters in modern history is marking a 88 thousand dollar price. Those who rowed their lifeboats away from the sinking 'Titanic' had not realized the importance of the history they were witnessing.

Exactly 30 years after wreckage of The Titanic was discovered, its luncheon menu was set to be auctioned for over $50,000. Ironically, there is no mention of iceberg lettuce anywhere in the menu.

Abraham Lincoln Salomon, a first class passenger ate Titanic's last serving lunch and saved the menu card with himself. He climbed onto a lifeboat that is infamously known as the 'money boat'. Little did he know that the titanic lunch menu card he that he hastily shoved into his pockets would be up for auction centuries later. And that too for almost $88,000.

This blog gives you the menu of what people ate on as their last meal!

Protecting Art, Even If It's Not Your Own

There are people out there who have not only stored a timepiece but have fought for art like contemporary art, they risked their lives for it and defied all societal norms to protect it. The Titanic's luncheon menu had been preserved for more than a century. It stood through the lashes of time and emerged invaluable. A mere piece of paper was tested by time and disaster alike and emerged as an invaluable entitiy.

There was a time during the second world war when Hitler became so ambitious that his motive was to loot museums around the world and crate a super museum in Austria containing all the looted art. It was then that a new organization known as "monuments men" emerged. It consisted of historians and museum personnel who dedicated their lives to protecting these artworks from being stolen. They hid them in underground storage and protected them from being vandalized. Captain Walter Huchthausen, one of the monuments men was brutally gunned down while trying to save some very important cultural artifacts.

The Art Of Lashing Out With Your Creativity

They first pull you down, if you grown wings, they cut them off, and if you fight back, they try to shut you up. Artists that lost their lives, writers whose blood is smeared on their pages and craftsmen who were silenced forever; each painting has an unanswered question and each book has a blank page. Is it all worth the risk?

Read about artists who bore the brunt of intolerance

Iran, a state where every poster and billboard in the city needs to be first sanctioned by the state, has an emerging talent the state has never witnessed before.Graffiti art is new form of fine art, now commonly found globally!. These artists have turned peace promotion as their mission and risk dire lawful actions against them for tainting the city walls with art that is approved by the state.

Serkan Engin, a Turkish writer fiercely protects his intellect. He feels that it is his duty to put to light about the Armenian, Greek, and Assyrian genocides in Turkey. "I'm devoting myself to the truth at the cost of my life and freedom." He says. Serkan Engin's strong statements have the ability to leave someone shaken. He says them loud, clear, and without fear of being 'silenced.'

The struggles of an artist

Become Artists, Not Soldiers - Redefining Rebel Art

What they usually term as defiance and rebellion against all norms is probably an understatement when it comes to George Gittos, an Australian who puts his life at stake every single day. And just for what? To teach about 50 young Afghans how to edit and shoot films. George moved to Afghanistan three years ago to create an arts collect called 'Yellow house'. Living in a country where the Taliban are known to target artists, filmmakers and musicians, he risks his life to encourage children to become artists and not soldiers. Interestingly, Art is now slowly an accepted form of expression now. "We haven't had a single bad thing happen. We've never been attacked or given a hard time by the Taliban. Contrary to the way people would think it would go,' he said.

Here is a fantastic read of art against terrorism!

Is It Worth It?

Not everyone is creative and it's unfair to believe that non creative people cannot respect art. The people who know most about art are the ones who are not creative. The monuments men protected cultural art pieces with their life. There are people who gaze at paintings for hours. The Titanic lunch menu became as good as an art piece once it was up for auction.

A masterpiece is nothing without its admirers. Sit in an auction and look around. It's a room filled with the wealthy trying to possess a painting or a sculpture or an artefact that is considered invaluable. Now look at a war stricken zone, a vandalized museum or a burnt library. The sole question that comes to our minds is, "What all does an art have to endure, to become a masterpiece?"
